The “Five Ugly Ones” is an endearing name given to a group of animals considered so ugly that even their mothers wouldn’t love them, according to Mots, our Motswana guide here in the Okavango Delta. They are, in no particular “ugliness” order: the hyena, the warthog, the Marabou stork, any vulture, and the wildebeest. We have seen them all now, except the hyena, who remains elusive. No pictures of vultures, though. Maybe I thought they were too ugly to photograph.
