Otavalo Market

The Otavalo market is a visual treat of vibrant colors and woven goods of all kinds. Some goods are made locally, and some are imported. Telling the difference is difficult for the unskilled eye, but after a short time walking through the market, it became relatively easy. Mostly, we just engage with the vendors.

We enjoyed the coca vendor and bought some coca leaves to try. They are like putting dried bay leaves into your cheeks and waiting forever for your saliva to soften them. Not particularly pleasant and really not much effect other than a slight jitteriness—kinda like a bad cup of coffee.
